 Staying PowerMarsha Power opened her salon 24 years ago in Austin. This year she has garnered national recognition when a top industry publication for salon and spa owners named Garbo A Salon and Spa one of the 200 fastest-growing salons in North America.
Salon Today magazine honored applicants who posted the hightest increases in gross sales between 2006 and 2007 (17% increase for Garbo). In the declining economy of 2007-2008, she continued to grow her business with another double-digit increase.Marsha's achievement in today's business climate is impressive; her staying power remarkable. She's hip, she's savvy and she's a trendsetter.
Her business acumen is evidence by her success, her execution to a smart marketing strategy and business plan, and the sense of family and community at the salon. Her employees are treated as part of her extended family; she was a pioneer in flexible working hours.
Power takes a holistic approach to her business as evidenced by enviromental stewardship- using enviromentally responsible Aveda products; taking responsibility for recycling; eliminating hazardous chemicals in her processes; utilizing green power (Garbo was the fifth business customer to sign up for Austin's GREEN ENERGY program); and employing sustainable business pratices.

Garbo is now featuring genuine stone jewelry. This month we are focusing on the captivating stone Turquoise. Our long standing client Deborah Richard makes these beautiful pieces in her spare time. Turquoise dates back all the way to ancient Egyptian times, found on the arm of Queen Zar. The turquoise stone has always been considered the "stone of life" and a protective stone, to be carried at all times. The stone was used in religion, art, trade, jewelry and even negotiation. Turquoise has also been used to remedy headaches, eye problems, fever, and insect bites. It is a harmonizing stone that is said to alleviate nervousness. Come by Garbo and see if any of the Turquoise or other pieces need a home...in your jewelry box. |

Garbo Going Beyond Green 
As you may know Garbo has gone green in many ways. From our organic products to our dedication to recycling. With April being Earth Month what better way to celebrate Aveda's mission for clean water than intergrating pure water technology in our Salon. Our new water system elminates the enviromental impact of bottled water as well as elminates microbiological contamination and oxygenates the water. This provides safer, fresher and better tasting drinking water. On your next visit make sure to hydrate yourself with our oxygenated cucumber water.
