I've been going to Garbo for over 6 years now. I was looking for an Aveda salon and came upon Garbo. My first experience there I met Rosalba and will not go anywhere else. I lately find myself having to make appointments weeks in advance because the words gotten out about Rosalba but I don't mind at all! Thanks for taking care such good hair care of me, my family, and friends.
Just got the best haircut I've ever had! Chris is awesome! I'd been growing out my hair for 3 years to donate it, and had no idea what kind of style I wanted. He spent the time to find out what I would actually do in terms of maintenance (which is awesome as I'm not one to straighten or curl or really even blow dry if I can avoid it). After chatting and playing with my hair, he ended up giving me the cutest cut I've ever had - I never even knew my hair could curl and flip the way it does now! I get compliments on it all the time. I love this salon, and now I have a stylist here that I love as well (although I've never gotten a bad cut here)!
Oh - and did I mention that it was less than half the price most of my friends pay for their haircuts? And you get the awesome Aveda shoulder/scalp massage plus shampoo - such a bargain!!!

Customer Service: amazing! She was patient with me when I had to run my son somewhere real quick before my appt. and she was really friendly the whole visit- She's an intelligent and beautiful girl, so good conversation as well, which is always a nice breath of fresh air from some of the trashy gossiping hair stylists I've had in the past!
Now, more importantly the quality of hair services: I got partial highlights and a haircut and am extremely happy with the results! At first, I didn't know, because I'm a strawberry-blonde and wanted to add more blonde and wasn't used to it, plus my hair's wild and it was styled next to my face, but after going home and narcistically staring at myself in the mirror I realized I loved it! Just took a short time to adjust! I am totally going back and have finally found a hair stylist that fits my needs unlike my past tragic hair experiences.....
As far as Garbo A Salon goes, I really enjoyed the atmosphere- but I thought I was going to be able to bring my son with a laptop and movie, but there was nowhere for him to sit and watch it- so not good for kids (even if you have entertainment for them)!! That's my one and only complaint and can't wait to go back!
I've been going to Garbo for about a year and I get my hair cut and highlighted by Rosalba. The results are great - she takes the weight out of my thick hair without making it look short, and the highlights are always pretty and natural. Love her!
The entire staff is really friendly and I've always been offered an extra service, like a chair massage while my hair was processing. I have also had a couple of facials with Ede and she is also great!
Lots of services to take advantage of. The Aveda products are great too, so it's not hard to drop some serious dollars on products and other randoms!
I'm so happy that I found this salon. I read the reviews on Garbo, went to their website and decided to try Amanda. She had great things written about her and I liked the fact that she's a blonde and would understand my needs as a "blonde". She understood exactly what I wanted from my need to eradicate roots while being a bit lazy about color upkeep as well as my need to keep my hair as long as possible while getting rid of the scraggily split ends.
I told her that I was ready for my spring/summer blonde and she gave me the best color since I've been back in Austin (7 years).
She formulated a very workable plan for my style of upkeep and I've already scheduled my next appointment.

I love Garbo! I have been going there for almost two years now, Kelly my stylist is amazing. She always knows just what to do with my hair. I also love the facials, and waxing. Over all a high recommendation!
I had been going to Avant Salon for over 2 years now and decided to start looking for another Aveda salon that might be a little easier on the pocketbook. Let me say this, I never had any issues with Avant Salon aside from them being a little over-priced.
On a Sunday afternoon, the gf and I were out exploring and I spotted a Aveda sign. I immediately logged into Yelp and began looking for the Aveda salon and found Garbo. Being a huge fan of yelp, I began reading the reviews for Garbo and noticed that they were rated 5 stars (wow, this is rare). So, as you could about imagine, I was super excited to check them out. After reading the reviews and checking out their website, I decided to go over and talk to them about my hair situation. As soon as I walked into the Salon, i was immediately greeted by the front desk worker, Anna. I told her my situation and she was a great listener. She began telling me prices and all of the different options that they offered. My jaw almost dropped when she told me about their prices! Almost 1/2 the amount that I was paying at Avant! She also told me that since it was their anniversary month, all services were $26! Score, I am so in! We scheduled my color appointment with Kelly for the following Sunday.
When I arrived for my hair appointment on Sunday, I was greeted by the front desk with a "Hey Ryan, how are you?" Wow, she remembered who I was?! I'm not sure if I should be excited about that but hey, it was nice to know that she paid attention and remembered me. ;) After getting checked in, i was greeted by Kelly. Let me just say, she is the cutest thing ever! We immediately hit it off and I knew that I would be in good hands. Basically, I had been dying my hair really dark (almost black with purple tint) and it had fallen a tad flat. I was ready to try something a little lighter since I pretty much lack color. Kelly had great ideas and we quickly decided on a color. It was a 2 step process since we had to strip the black out first and then start with the color. The whole process took a while since I have a lot of hair but it was totally worth it! Kelly was great company and even gave me a hand massage! We went with a very nice brown color with a slight hint of red. Awesome, totally love the color.
A week or so after my hair color, I went in for a haircut with Kelly. I have pretty thick hair and it was getting a bit long and needed some shaping. I brought Kelly a few pictures of what I wanted and she took over from there. She did a great job! My hair feels so healthy and light. It is so much easier to style now, which is great for me since I am a pony-tail kinda girl. It also helps that the gf likes it! ;)
I just want to say that my over all experience with Garbo has been fantastic!! More than I excepted for a hair salon. They are super friendly and very welcoming. They also gave me a free gift for being a new client, how sweet is that?!
This is now my salon and I have and will continue to recommend them to my friends!
I had an excellent first experience at Garbo. I went in last Saturday for a cut and color and could not be happier. Excellent service, excellent atmosphere, excellent all around! I am VERY hesitant about getting my hair done by ANYONE else and have done minimal work with one individual for the last 3 years; I stayed with her mainly because I would not trust anyone else with my hair and she did an okay job.
I was recommended to Garbo and hesitantly booked an appointment. From the moment I walked in, I felt like they cared that I was there. I was offered a fresh, fruit water and pleasant seating in a very relaxing atmosphere. And the smell was luxurious. I was set for a color with Rosalba and a cut with Liz. When I met the receptionist and Rosalba, I was pleasantly surprised with their "Austin" vibe; while Garbo is an upscale Salon, the employees are very down to earth and not at all "snobby" like MOST North Austin salons have become accustomed to these days.
Rosalba took the time to give me what I wanted from the second I started talking. I told her that I very rarely let people color my hair, but that I loved red and wanted to get back to it. I told her the color I wanted and picked the shade I thought I liked. She asked me detailed questions to ensure that I was communicating the color I truly wanted. I wanted something a little brighter than my color then would have allowed for, and she took the time to do some extra steps to lighten the hair a bit so the color I wanted would show through. She didn't have to take the time to do this but did because she knew it would get me the results I wanted; no extra price but loads of extra service!!! The color is "natural" and vibrant; it is gorgeous.
Liz cut my hair and was super professional and a barrel of laughs right from the beginning. I told her what I wanted and that no one had ever really been able to give it to me. I didn't have a picture to show her like I have EVERY other time I have asked other salons to do this; however, she did it better than anyone has and my hair is super cute! She knew I was hesitant but she still went for it while leaving some room for me to go wilder later, if I want. :) I love it and am so happy that I have found someone that will give me what I ask for while adding their expertise flair.

Came in to see Vanessa for a consultation and cut based on the reviews here at Yelp, and I couldn't be happier! I love my hair, and I've received so many complements from others. This is, literally, the first time I have left a salon in my entire life feeling so thrilled with the results and I can't wait to come back.
The prices are very reasonable and the staff goes out of their way to make for a pleasant atmosphere and experience.
I have been returning to Garbo for several years now. I get my hair cut by Vanessa who is AMAZING. She takes my sad hair and makes it look great. She has a great eye for hairstyles and what will flatter me. Vanessa has turned all my wacky ideas into something fabulous. I highly recommend her. As an added bonus her shampoos are a heavenly experience!

I had an appointment with Vanessa yesterday and she did a fantastic job. I love my new cut and the whole experience was great. First off, they were able to book me an appointment within a couple days of my call, which was helpful, and their front desk guy was really sweet. So right off, I had a good feeling. Second, I have been burned by a few yucky haircuts so I come in rather paranoid. Vanessa listened to my concerns and communicated everything very clearly. I confessed that I don't know how to "do" hair and she took the time to show me step by step how to style my hair in the morning. She showed me tricks for holding the brush and hair drier and doing my bangs right. It was just a really great experience all round. To top it off, it was really inexpensive - so I tipped big because she deserved it.
Also, from what I saw in the Salon, the entire team has a very good vibe and looked fashion forward / stylish... but since I worked with Vanessa, I thought I should give her a shout out!
I used to be blonde and didn't like my copper hue still remaining after 2 attempts at another salon. Vanessa at Garbo was great. She got all the red out, fixed a poor haircut and got all my dead ends off to leave me with the color I wanted and healthy feeling hair again! Thanks great work

I think I found my salon! Finally after several years of going to decent hairstylists and get what were probably just fine haircuts, just not what I wanted, I told Amanda what I thought I wanted and she gave me the best cut I have had in years. Now maybe I will get my hair cut more often!

Best salon I've ever been to! (and I've been around for awhile) I've had cuts, color (what a treat!!) massage. and wonderful pedicures (thanks Liz). I also get my Aveda cosmetics and hair products there. The staff is fantastic - friendly and helpful, and I love the cucumber water.
I went to Garbo on a whim, and because I had read good reviews on Yelp. I've been to other Aveda salons, and always loved them, but thought they were too expensive. The services at Garbo are very reasonable. Liz washed, cut, and styled my hair, and touched up my make up for free. I also got a brow wax. I will definitely go back, and you should check out the specials in February.
I live in Crestview and LOVE having a neighborhood Aveda salon. Kelly McLean is my stylist and she is wonderful. I am a new to coloring my hair and she is very patient with answering my questions. She just moved to a level 2 stylist, so congratulations to Kelly!
So...I moved to Austin after a long history of very cheap haircuts at a fabulous Aveda training school, and never thought I could get the same quality and value again. So when I called Garbo and found out that Kelly went to the same school, I knew I was in the right place :)
I don't usually have a firm idea of what I want done to my hair--I usually walk in with an idea, and expect to rely on my stylist to "make it work" for me, and Kelly immediately understood the look I was going for. She is friendly and professional, and I can't believe how low her prices are. Seriously. Call and ask.
The best thing about Kelly is that she is still absolutely excited about what she is doing, and she will really work hard to make sure you are happy. She's full of great ideas and knows what's in style and how to make it look good on you. I'm pretty picky about my color, and she does an absolutely amazing job with color, too--my blond is always perfectly platinum, thanks to her
I agree with all the wonderful things already written about the hair, facial ad massage services at Garbo. They are AMAZING! I also wanted to mention that they are one of the few places in Austin that have a well trained Thai Massage Specialist. It is the best massage I have ever had in my life - seriously!!!! Tons of stretching, acupuncture and deep, yet not painful, massage. It is done while dressed so it's perfect for those uncomfortable getting naked with a stranger. It is about an hour and a half of massage for only $90. Great for all of us computer people and probably just about anyone. Beni is really nice and I'm sure would answer any questions (she understands that this is not a very common type of body work here in the south) I would highly recommend this! Afterwards, I like to get my hair washed and styled (only $25) but then, I'm all for inexpensive decadence!!!!
I love this Aveda salon! It is extremely well priced for haircuts (other services are on the pricey side). I love my haircut and was really relaxed by the tea/coffee/cucumber water before the haircut and scalp massage during the cut. My stylist (Kelly) really wanted my input during the whole process and it all ended up awesome. I'm definitely returning
If you want the 411 on the best hair salon in Austin, TX.... here's a little secret....in the NW area, in a small shopping strip behind Northcross mall, is home to Garbo Salon.
My first experience with this sweet gem began in 1996. A co-worker of mine had referred me and I was very hesitant. I have very thick, curly and most times unruly hair. The frizz on my head, depending on length of hair, will either do natural fro or natural dreadlocks. And I'm mexican! Sheesh! I knew I needed a good hair salon but after being scarred by other places that made me look more like a cry for help, well.....it took some coaxing to give Garbo a call. I made an appointment with Judy Wellington. Walking in, I was flooded with welcome by the most friendliest staff and was waited on hand and foot. I thought to myself...self! I can get use to this! I didn't wait long and when seated, I explained to Judy my fears and what I was looking for. Her reassurances were genuine and confident. Her advice....good Lord, they give advice! YES! Just what I needed and was awesome. Washing my hair, the head/neck massage was pure bliss, I was so relaxed I thought my head was going to roll off. For the hair cut, I shut my eyes and refused to look until it was all done. But Judy kept me talking and with her humorous and witty talk, I began to relax. When it was all over and I looked -- I had a smile fatter than the cheshire cat in Alice in Wonderland. That one experience was all it took...my thick, curly, unruly frizzy head found a home and been going there ever since!
The massages are wonderful and heavenly, you'll get up from that table feeling so relaxed and lighter than air...you'll wonder if you left your skeletal frame behind.
Never had a pedicure but the manicures rock!
The facials...Now, I've had facials in other spas that either leave you faceless or try to make you think you got a glow when in reality you look like you got zapped with radioactive material. At Garbo, the facials are devine. Hands move gently and gracefully and leaves your skin so supple and healthy. They even give you advice on how to take care of your skin and help you identify problem areas and how to treat them. Whether your skin shines like the top of the Chryster building or you've got acne...they know the best care.
I rarely do color, but one bad experience on my own a few years ago was enough to say....I dont' ever want to look like the "M" from McDonalds again. Judy took care of me though, gave me new fresh look. Yes, they even fix the no-no's we try to do ourselves. If that ain't love, I don't know what is.
My boys have been to Garbo, they are 12 & 14, I've referred other friends and family. Garbo has been my second family for 15 years now. They are all so curteous, generous, welcoming and so Austin. The vibe in that place totally rocks. Marcia the owner is a beautiful person. Judy and all the other ladies and gents that work there are wonderful souls who work their talent and skills to make you look and feel beautiful. They love what they do, they constantly train and strongly believe in continuing education. Its a passion that's evident in their work.

Just moved to Austin from FL and have refused to get my hair cut for fear of one of those "wear my hair in a ponytail for the next month" cuts... after some pretty in-depth research on Yelp, I decided on Garbo and I'm happy to say I'm wearing my hair down proudly!! And with plenty of cash left in my wallet, too! :) The staff was so warm and welcoming and Sara did an AMAZING job on my hair... she took the time to listen to exactly what I needed and it shows. FYI for first timers, ask about the discount on your first visit. My shampoo, cut and style ended up costing me $22 in the end. Amazing deal and I look forward to seeing Sara again soon!

Garbo A Salon..What a presence, this place is not pretentious but Aveda. The owner is amazing and offers you a feeling of customer service. I had a massage by Blue ,candlelight, in the middle of the after noon. Garbo is an Oasis behind the new Walmart.I have gone back twice for haircuts as well and was very pleased. I had an experience hairdresser the first time she was VERY good and the next time I tried her trainee Kelly for $27.00.She was excellent and such a value and works on Sunday's. I am in love and after 5 years of searching I have found My Salon!. ps.try the cucumber water,organic teas and coffee too,complimentary!

Sara did a wonderful job trimming my long hair. She took her time and made sure it was perfect. I wanted to keep my length...Besides looking healthier and not dead on the ends, I can't even tell she took any length off!! Its so hard to find a stylist that will do that!!

I am in Austin for only two months, but found this salon and thought I'd try out a haircut. I'm VERY PICKY! I've been going to the same hairdresser for 20 years (or more). Vanessa, my stylist, was super. She listened to me and then did a great cut. She took time with me and I love how my hair looks. In fact, I liked it so much, I returned. (Vanessa also does a very relaxing shampoo.)Everyone is so friendly and it makes me want to live in Austin so I can be part of this salon. I walked in and didn't feel like a stranger! Good work, Garbo! Love everyone I've met there!
AWESOME PLACE! they got me in for a 6:30 appointment at 6:15, didn't say boo about me being a few minutes late (oops), and gave me 5 star treatment the whole time. it was overly affordable, and actually a lot of fun! i had Kelly and she was awesome!!! i wanted to keep the length and she actually made it look longer and healthier than before. I would definitely recommend it to anybody and everybody!!!
I would rave about the Aveda products and lovely staff and different pricing available (sometimes I go for a cheaper touch-up trim or I splurge on a nice haircut) and the clean surroundings and the fact that it's a neighborhood business and that they are charitable and on and on and on.... but what I REALLY love is that they are open on Sundays. That sealed the deal for me - being a busy working mom and active volunteer - I need something that is open when others are not. My hair has found a home!!

Best salon in Austin! I have been to many many salons/spas here in Austin and I have found the one! Garbo is a gem tucked away in the Allandale neighborhood next to the Hotel Allandale! Ask for Vanessa! She is the most amazing hair stylist & colorist I have ever been to! She brought me back to blonde from mousey brown in just one visit! You can't beat the prices on products & services & to top it off, Garbo is an Aveda salon! My favorite!!! Each hair appointment I make feels more like a spa day because you ate offered cucumber water as soon as you walk in and you are treated to complimentary head & neck massages every time!!! I have also treated myself to the facials here & they are to die for! Each facial is tailor made to your needs that day & includes a shoulder/arm/leg massage as well! You will not believe the affordable prices & you will not be disappointed! :)
This Salon is A-mazing! My last few stylists were very inconsistent. A good haircut mixed in with a lot of bad ones. Finally, I would get fed up and search for a new one. Vanessa is the greatest. From Shampoo to cut she is completely focused on your hair and what you want done to it. The haircuts have been so good and I have gotten so many compliments that I have made an appointment to get color done for the first time in years.
It is a great place... good nuance from the cucumber water to the sweet people.. Judy is a sweetheart AND does a great job on my hair, particularly since I am seem to be so hard to please! She works me in for little cuts here and there which I appreciate. And we have wonderful conversations! Love her!
All of us have probably had a bad salon experience...you know.....the kind when afterwards you're afraid to go our in public without a bag over your head? I go regularly now to Garbo because they not only address my "hair issues", but the entire experience leaves me relaxed and with a sense of well-being. The uplifting experience begins when I walk through the door.....this place smells GREAT! Then the friendly receptionist usually asks if I'd like some cucumber water or hot tea. I never wait more than a few minutes before smiling Vanessa (that's who I go to) rounds the counter and says hello and calls me back to her corner. Vanessa takes great care, is absorbed in what she does (you can tell she likes her work), and will talk or not talk...whatever you need. She cuts and colors my hair now on a regular basis...and I continually get compliments. In addition, my hair has never felt so soft nor looked so healthy thanks to her and the wonderful Aveda products. Some products work better than others on my hair, so experiment and feel free to ask for samples. Not always, but often when my hair is shampooed, I get a complimentary neck and scalp massage! Others there are good, too......Beni (a girl) does good hair work AND body work, and is a jewel of a person. Marsha, the owner gives a great haircut. Liz has never cut my hair, but she worked magic on my hair with a dryer diffuser and curling iron. I hear Judy and Rosalba (spelling?) are quite talented, too. And Milton is one big sweetheart.....he's never done my hair, but he's made me laugh many times (and occasionally presents me with a piece of chocolate!) I love that he goes to client's homes when they are handicapped or otherwise incapacitated, and he takes the salon to them! And finally, if you aren't satisfied with your hair, the salon will make it right. Just tell them on the spot or call after you get home (I saw this happen only once), and they will fix it for free or somehow make it better!! I've been to many salons, and Garbo is by far the best. You'll be well cared for by welcoming and talented people!
I love, love, love Vanessa at Garbo salon. I just found Garbo about a year ago and i can't believe it took me so long! Garbo is the perfect combination of a true "salon/spa" feel, but yet not too pretentious. Vanessa does excellent cuts and highlights. she is meticulous at her job and takes it very seriously, which makes me love her even more! :) i also really enjoy that she isn't too chatty or gossipy for a stylist....she is super professional and like i said before...she is really good at what she does! go see her and i promise you will not regret it! and by the way, i have curly hair, which is extra proof of her talent, because she knows exactly how to cut my curls! so, for all you curly girls out, i'm tellin' ya.....you can totally trust her! ;) oh, and p.s. ladies - the prices are some of the best in town for the service you are getting!
Garbo has this great mix of contemporary, state-of-the-art style softened with genuine care and a welcoming atmosphere. I have never felt judged at Garbo, and the prices are affordable, but I walk out with really good hair. More importantly, Beni gives me great haircuts that look great no matter how lazy I am. Brilliant!

I've been going to Garbo for at least five years...maybe more. I love everything about this salon. Everyone is super friendly and makes you feel instantly at home. I've had everything from haircuts/highlights to facials, brow waxing and pedicures here. And this is the only place I go to get my Aveda products. I have been an Aveda junkie for 23 years. I keep trying other products and my hair just says NO!! If you love Aveda, go to Garbo and definitely join the Pure Privilege program. Totally worth it!!

You gotta love an Aveda salon with decent prices and exceptionally talented staff! I went for a haircut with Beni who gave me exactly what I asked for plus a lot of extra goodness (most amazing aromatherapy scalp massage ever).
I had the opportunity to meet Marsha the salon owner during my appointment and from meeting her, it is clear to see why Garbo Salon is such a happy place. No bad energy in this place with Marsha in charge! I highly recommend this hidden gem on the NW side of town and Beni is now my go-to girl for all things hair related!
Vanessa has been cutting my hair since her days at the Paul Mitchell school. She's still my hair stylist at the Garbo Salon. Whether it's a hair cut or hair color, you'll definitely be satisfied with her attention to detail. You'll also enjoy her scalp and neck massage. You'll love the atmosphere at Garbo. The rest of the staff is very friendly and professional.

Rosalba is the most talented hairstylist I've ever come across. I've had a ton of very different hair styles and she has kept up with each of them. The back of my neck has crazy things going on and she somehow manages to get it all under control. Every single person I come across always mentions how awesome my hair looks. I love Garbo! Austin friendly but with great consistent customer service! Judy is best stylist Ive ever had - perfect cut color and style. Amazing to be the best at all three! i see men and women regularly going there. Always feels like home - a fantastic spa home. Highest recommendation from me.
I was captured by Garbo over 12 years ago with a friendly, warm, and genuine connected atmosphere. When I moved from Southern California, I was use to the latest and greatest up to date hair styles and services so my expectations were high. Before arriving at Garbo I had already tried 6 other hair salons. I have to say between the great, friendly Garbo team, and up to date hair styles and products, my experience at Garbo and the entire staff has truly been refreshing. "Thumbs Up" for the owner (Marsha Power) for taking so many initiatives to help the community and those in need. Last but not least, it is a joy watching customers walk out happy including myself... I have to say Garbo is definitely a keeper for life!

I love this salon and have been going there for years. Unlike other hurried and curt personnel, everyone there loves Marsha (the owner) and Elsie's (shampoos). They are sensitive to your health and use natural Aveda products. The massage therapist is so wonderful also.
Now I have to drive from out of town but they are worth it! Bravo GARBO!
Beni is not only a hairstylist but also a massage therapist and she is absolutely incredible at both. Her energy instantly calms you and relaxes every part of you. She offered me a chair massage while my color was processing. I thought it would be strange but it was the most relaxing and beneficial way to spend my 30 minutes processing time. I left Garbo feeling absolutely beautiful and relaxed all thanks to Beni.
I love this place!!! I go here for EVERYTHING....facials, waxing, nails, massage, and hair. The atmosphere is amazing and you will always be treated with a smile.
I've been going to Garbo for years, and I love it! Rosalba is a color genius!! I have never had a bad experience at Garbo, and I've probably been there about 100 times. All the ladies (and Milton) are fantastic. Everyone I have sent to Garbo has loved it as well. High quality services and products, but very friendly and unpretentious.
Judy is one of those stylist that just has a nack for hair. My hair is fine and curly. She listens to me very well and truly connects with my hair concerns.
Garbo A Salon and Spa has exceeded my standards for the past year. I've always gone to Aveda salons in Austin, but tried Garbo after receiving a flier. When I first arrived I immediately felt welcome...great energy, wonderful customer service from everyone (front desk, stylist, shampoo). I was told about the other services that the salon/spa offered without feeling overwhelmed or like I was being sold something. The place is just wonderful. I would recommend going in for a "Queen for a Day." You will receive the works...scalp treatment/massage, haircut with a senior stylist, facial, manicure/pedicure (they serve you lunch too)!! You can trade the facial for a massage if you want. Another great thing is that they are open 7 days a week!! What Aveda salon/spa is open 7 days a week?? GARBO!!!
I've always had great experiences at Garbo. I've gone to Beni several times for my hair and she always listens and gives great suggestions too! The rest of the staff is really friendly and professional and overall it has a great atmosphere.
